Frequently Asked Questions
ELEVATE Carolina is a South Carolina nonprofit that connects young people, schools, and communities to expand where and how meaningful learning happens. Through our three initiatives - ELEVATE Studios, ELEVATE XChange, and ELEVATE Schools - we create, connect, and co-design opportunities that deepen learning, prepare young people for their futures, and strengthen communities.
ELEVATE Studios creates and facilitates learning experiences with young people and communities. ELEVATE XChange connects young people with opportunities across workplaces and communities and provides support that helps make those experiences meaningful. ELEVATE Schools works alongside schools and districts to co-design programs and learning models that bring more community-powered, learner-centered experiences into public education.
Traditional work-based learning often focuses on career-connected experiences such as workplace visits, job shadowing, internships, and apprenticeships. XChange can complement those efforts while extending beyond them.
Participation varies by initiative and opportunity. ELEVATE primarily works with young people through partnerships with schools, families, community organizations, employers, and other local partners. Specific eligibility, age ranges, locations, and schedules are shared with each opportunity.
Costs vary by program and partnership. Whenever possible, ELEVATE works with partners and funders to reduce or eliminate costs for young people and families. Any costs associated with a specific opportunity will be clearly communicated before enrollment.
Schools and districts can partner with ELEVATE in several ways, from connecting young people with community and workplace learning opportunities through XChange to developing learning experiences or co-designing programs and school models. We begin by understanding the school or district’s goals, strengths, and needs and determining where ELEVATE can add value.
Businesses and community organizations can contribute in many ways, including sharing expertise, mentoring young people, hosting learning experiences, contributing real challenges or projects, providing resources, or partnering with ELEVATE to create new opportunities. We work with partners to find a role that aligns with their strengths and capacity.
